Teletubbies

I'm a sucker for children shows. No, not Barney, please... but oldies like Electric Company and Sesame Street. Well, I prefer the merchandise to the show itself. Now, the latest case is Teletubbies. By the way, I saw Sesame Street (Chinese version) on Premier 12 recently. It is so spasticated, singing about cleaning up your room. Look, if this kind of propaganda works, my room would certainly not be in such a pathetic sight. Point aside; let me tell you why I find Teletubbies so fascinating.

Tinky Winky, Dispy, Laa-Laa, Po. Teletubbies, Teletubbies, say hello 'EH-OH'.

This catchy tune makes me sing along all the time. My brother can attest to that. Ok, so I'm Tubby poisoned, but they are simply adorable with their childlike mannerisms. The only thing I can't help noticing is that Tinky Winky sounds so much like an adult and he doesn't sound that convincing. Laa-Laa is bright and cheerful and the gongfu fighting Po is so adorable. Maybe this is a feminist statement, but the girls are much better received than the guys are.

Who cares this is for children? There are so many people who likes them, Well, I must admit with this type of show, you either hate it or love it. My brother told me that this is a stupid show, and I watch it for the first time. It was, but I gave it a second chance and became addicted to it.

I mentioned earlier about the brainwashing songs from Sesame Street. In Teletubbies, the windmills can hypnotise the Teletubbies and the Teletubbies can hypnotise the audience. Even my mother finds them cute, especially the way they run. It is so much like little children who have tremendous bursts of energy whenever you try to catch them.

I do pity the actors though, as they can't keep the heads on for more than 10 minutes for fear of carbon dioxide build-up. Hey, where's the actors' union? The characters are so big that the rabbits running around the fields are of a special breed. Whoever thought that rabbits could be so big?

The average viewership in Singapore is 100000 per show and many people see the potential to make money out of them. The real merchandise is around 50 bucks and you can get an imitated version for one-tenth of the price. Piracy is so rampant here. Anything that sells, they have it. But some of them look cute not like the spasticated Tweety Birds you see.

There are some things that amaze me in Teletubbies. Their favourite Tubby Toast always seems to land perfect on their plates, save for one occasion where a toast was caught between Laa-Laa's antenna. The poor Tubby was left bewildered, wondering where the toast went while her friends laughed and laughed. This is just so much like normal life. Anything funny you see, you will laugh at the poor person and not say what is happening. In addition, their Tubby Custard also amazes me. It can be made by pressing a few buttons. The bowl and custard will simply come out by itself. Any enterprising inventors around? But I wonder, how do they wash up, what if the custard ran out, or what if they ran out of bowls. Moreover, I didn't realise the beds were of different sizes, until Po went to sleep in Tinky Winky's bed and the poor guy couldn't sleep in hers, for he was too big. Furthermore, Tinky Winky's bag has so much space that Laa-Laa's big orange ball, Po's scooter and Dipsy's hat can fit into it. It is just like one advertisement by Visa, where the people are able to take anything out that are much bigger than the box itself. Wonder who copied who? Noo-Noo loves the Tubby Toast and is always vacuuming. If only I have an intelli-vacuum cleaner. Also, the design of the Tubbytronic Superdome is that you can simply walk in through the doors. Then were on earth do they want to climb up the building just to use the slide? There are so many questions, I only wish I could see the faraway land over the hills myself.

Teletubbies say "EH-OH"

It is time for Tubby Custard!
