TV Shows The Appeal of Beach Boys Takashi Sorimachi and Yukata Takenouchi First of all, I must admit I am a fan of Takashi Sorimachi. He and Yukata Takenouchi are the main reasons why I like the show tremendously. The great tanned bods, height, broad shoulders, muscles, long hair and friendly smiles are attributes difficult to find around you. Calling them hunks is an understatement. The girls in the show are pretty and have good figures. Everyone seemed to look perfect, even if Zhenqin does not have perfect teeth, but she has the schoolgirl innocence in her. Physical attributes aside, the actors and actresses brought out their carefree lifestyle well. Haidu, a corporate office worker has decided to give it all up to work at the beach motel. I suspect many people have a secret desire to give up everything to lead a fun and carefree life, but never thought of doing it in reality. Hence, Haidu stood for the fantasy people have and it is definitely a crowd-puller. Guanghai, a national swimmer, also represented some dreams we have - to excel in something we do. Be it by talent or hard work or both, everyone wants to be the best in something. It is difficult to achieve it, but here, this character actually achieved it. We were led to believe that he couldn't join the Olympic Games due to an injury and that he received a setback. It turned out that he actually did not like swimming and again, I admire him for the guts to stop doing something he has no interest in. How many a time we are forced to do something against our own will, but we can only hate it in our private realm? Of course, some may criticise him as being impulsive and did not think of others. It was his country's pride if he had entered the Olympics and maybe even won something. Well, this is a dilemma that I leave it to you to think about. Chunzi, a pub owner, is a single mother who had to give up her child, not because of irresponsibility but because she felt that her child Chunshu would have a better life with his father. I don't agree with the father, who gave an excuse that his parents objected to her and made him choose between career and love. Maybe this is peculiar to Japanese culture or whatever, so I can't comment on this. Her motherly instinct was seen when she waited for her son's letter patiently everyday, and the determination to want the best for her son is commendable. The scene where she cried and waved frantically goodbye to her son was heart-warming. On another occasion, she sewed a kimono for Zhenqin as she yearned for it. Yet, when Zhenqin's mother sent her one, Chunzi did not give the one she sewed. I think we have encountered such occasions at one point or another when it may be best if we keep some things to ourselves. Zhenqin, a high school girl is adorable as she fights with the two guys. She has fun with them and we see that she likes Guanghai and the feeling she had when he held her hand to demonstrate how to cut the food. How I love to b in her place. Another part of the story is about her relationship with her mother. Her parents divorced when she was young and her mother left her in the custody of her grandfather. The resentment towards her mother is resolved towards the end, when she realises the sacrifices her mother had to make. In addition, she has to learn to let go when the two guys left the motel. Despite not wanting them to leave, she has to as her grandfather told her not to stop them if they should decide to leave to pursue their dreams. I guess the hard part is to give up something you love, or someone you love, knowing that it is best for them, and difficult for you to let go. The owner, Zhenqin's grandfather, provided a stabilising force in their lives. He encouraged the two guys to find their own sea, but he had given up on his own dream -surfing. He finally took it up when he was 64 and trained hard for it. To die for your dream is a romantic notion, but of course some may say he shouldn't have been so silly to challenge nature. While I don't exactly believe in dying for your dreams, at least he has the guts to pursue his dream. Many of us may find it hard to do so. The story line of Beach Boys may be simple, but it touched on hope. Two few people dared to hope and dream. With this show, people can find hope and their dreams in the various characters. There are many poignant moments, without the drag of Taiwanese drama serials. Watching the characters banter and have fun, it is a light-hearted comedy as well. One of the most humorous scenes is seeing Guanghai's Mini rushing into the sea. The soundtrack is great as well and gives a cool sentimentalist feeling. Of course, the beach is a great location. I'm sure many people would be trying to find the same beach to visit when they go Japan.
